Today we went outside. Lucky for me, the snow was powdery so it didn't stick to my shoes or pants. We worked on focusing out vision and using peripheral vision. We walked in single file, using p. vision, taking everything in, like walking through a continuous movie screen. In the field: We ran towards a focused point on the horizon with our eyes closed. Today I learned to take notice of the surrounding environment. Raymon also explained that the outdoors is also a place for theatre. People have been using the outdoors for theatre for generations, all over the world. I never thought about how special the outdoor theatre could be: Natural, unpredictable, everchanging, and we are always under its control. We have to adjust to what it does.
Then we went to the sculptures. Each of us, with our eyes closed had to guess what one of the sculptures was. I think the best one was the canoe: slabs of rock, chunks of rock all stacked upon each other obliquely. One had to take it's shape in context, instead of feeling each rock. It would be difficult to do that since it looked like it was fifteen feet long.
Raymon told us a story about the canoe, according to him:
A woman from France made the sculpture from leftover material from the other sculptors in a sculpture symposium.
She puts a precious marble in middle of the canoe; it is taken in six days.
Raymon visits the lady in Paris; she’s making a paper maché canoe in her studio. She plans to make it point in the direction of the SK canoe sculpture so then it would land on the sculpture if it were to fly.
She’s commissioned to make an origami canoe for some commissioners in Japan, making it point to the French canoe. Her dream was to make a line of canoes around the world.
Raymon made us realize that this story could be a bunch of bullshit, but he also said it was a good story, and it didn't matter if it was true or not. It has a good message, it has meaning.
The actor's job is to tell a story, and to use imagination. This story was quite effective
